New Preschool Book Brings Back the Basics -- Reading to Your Child.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL Deep in the Woods, a beautifully illustrated counting story written by Janet Aiossa, encourages the most essential component in early childhood education: interaction. Perched upon a parent's or grandparent's knees, young children are most receptive to learning the 1-2-3's and A-B-C's, the foundation for their future learning success. The book's enchanting verse, alluring illustration and large-size format combine to invite story-time readings with children nestled in the laps of loved ones.

Aiossa was inspired to write the story while seated beneath the trees outside her home in the lush Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Recalling how her own son looked forward to, and so loved being read to each night prior to bedtime, she created a story set deep in the woods, imaginatively animating the trees, critters and wildlife of the natural environment. "As we approached bedtime each night my son was filled with excitement seeing a few books come out, knowing we would be whisked off to a far away adventure. I believe this formed the foundation for his love of reading" said Aiossa.

Aiossa turned to Deborah Boudreau Gabel, her friend and former Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale classmate to create the illustrations for Deep in the Woods. "I knew this project was perfect for Deborah as she was constantly creating lovable, very animated characters that seemed to draw you in", said Aiossa. Gabel, an established illustrator with her own portrait studio paints a charming picture of a day in the life of the characters in their woodsy home with enticing detail to captivate children and adults alike. "For as long as I can remember I was drawing children and animals. I was always hoping my love for what I was doing would show through my work in ways people could see the lovable and amusing characters in all of us!" said Gabel.

Janet Aiossa, an award-winning art director for over 20 years, lives with her husband and son in Fort Lauderdale. The family takes frequent trips to their North Carolina mountain home. Deborah Boudreau Gabel, raised in South Florida, now lives with her husband, two sons and daughter in Euless, Texas where she continues to run a successful fine arts studio (www.conceptsdesign.com/mastiff/debbie/index.htm)
